I have learnt a lot through the capacity building services offered. I thought I knew a lot, but this experience has truly opened my eyes to what I did not know. Strategic planning, funding, scoping projects, and costings (including overheads, which I was unfamiliar with before, the % structure) have significantly helped me on a personal level for Pikes. I am also applying these insights at work (CVS) to better support our clients. This training has brought me a lot of confidence, enabling me to challenge people more positively and assertively. As a fledgling organisation, Castletown Arts identified several key areas where it lacked experience, particularly in securing funding. During our first session, S2B assessed our knowledge and provided an in-depth tutorial on bid writing, an essential skill for our capacity building services. In the follow-up session, we examined a previous funding application that had failed, allowing us to highlight effective and ineffective bid writing practices to improve our success rate. This consultancy not only enhanced our understanding of our eligibility for various funding resources but also encouraged us to develop sustainable business strategies. For instance, we recognized the Paul Hamlyn Foundation as an ideal funder for our activities, though our lack of established financial records posed a challenge. Through our consultation with S2B, we identified that partnering with an organization we had previously collaborated with would strengthen our application. This partnership would allow them to lead the application process while subcontracting the delivery of services to us, ultimately enabling us to build the financial records necessary for future bids. This strategic alliance will support our growth and enhance our leadership development, ensuring our activities reach our target users.
